Surfing Cottesloe

Cottesloe is one of Perth's most popular beaches with waves breaking off the iconic groyne and a set of reef breaks in the area.

Cottesloe Surf Spots

Surfing in Cottesloe takes place mainly around the iconic groyne. Waves break off both sides of the groyne with the Left working best in bigger South West swells. The groyne gives some protection from dreaded Summer Southerlies. In Summer months there is a shark net stretching from the groyne to the pylon to create a safe swimming area. The net is taken down in Winter so surfers can surf the break. Keep an eye on the Pylon for a sneaky wave. On the Southern side of the Groyne in front of the carpark are a pair of waves. The Cove is the mellow right hander breaking off the reef rock shelf and Seconds is the hollower left hander. Super shallow.

Further South, Isolators is a mellow left right wave breaking over a reef that is favoured by longboarders. Long rides on the right right onto the reef. In the past, the break was called 'isolated' as there was hardly anyone there. Those days are long gone.

Apres Surf

Cottesloe is one of the more popular beaches in Perth and there is lots to do apart from surfing. Across the beach and along Marine parade are a host of cafes, restaurants and takeaway joints catering to beach goers.

Little SUP is a cool little surf cafe / shop serving coffees, food and wine. Its usually packed but patrons just chill outside. They stock their own Ocean Merchants surfboards and other accessories. They are open super early, so pick up a coffee and some wax on your way to the beach.

If you feel like chilling on the sand you can pick up some takeaway at The Cottesloe General Store which has burgers, pies and $15 pizzas. For classic fish and chips by the beach try Ocean View Fish & Chips and Amberjacks. Canteen Pizza serves authentic Neapolitan pizza and has alfresco dining to take in that Western Australian sunset.

For something a bit more upbeat you can head to the one of the bars or beer gardens at the Ocean Beach Hotel for drinks and music. Every weekend DJs spin tunes at the popular Sunday Sessions event.
