Things to do in Margaret River
Margaret River is one of Australia's premier tourist destination and along with the amazing waves has everything you need for a great surf trip.
Margarets is one of the best places to spot whales on their annual migration route. During the second half of the year you may be able to catch a glimpse of them from shore if you are lucky. Or you can head up to one of the lighthouses or get up close to them on a whale watching tour.
The area is one of the best for growing grapes in Australia and you can go cellar door to cellar door for wine tasting. Larger wineries like Voyager Estate and Cape Mentelle have restaurants or you can just BYO picnic on the grounds of the Stella Bella wine makers. If gin is more to you liking, the Margaret River Distilling Company has tasting courses for the Giniversity label.
Margarets has a few breweries well worth a visit. The Margaret River Brewhouse serves gastro pub style food, beers and has live music on Fridays and Sundays. The Cheeky Monkey Brewpub is another popular spot where you can sample their beers, have lunch while the kids play on the outdoor climbing frames.
Pick up a pre-surf coffee from the Combi Coffee mobile cafe van which sets up early at the Rivermouth carpark. Bean connoisseurs should stop by at the Yahava KoffeeWorks for a Koffee safari tour of all their flavours.
After your surf session, a short walk from Surfer's Point is Sea Garden Cafe which has early happy hour specials and views of the ocean for sundowner sessions.
For fish and chips check out the the gourmet offerings at local favourite Squid Lips in town. The Hooked Up chippy truck operates from Surfers Point carpark. Grab your order, have a picnic and take in the sweeping views of the ocean.
In Gnarabup, head to the White Elephant cafe situated on the dunes. The outdoor deck is as close to the beach as you can get.
