Canggu Surf Spots

The surf town of Canggu is famous for its world class surf breaks all within walking distance or a short motor ride of each other. At Echo Beach, there are a series of fast hollow breaks suitable for advanced surfers. The main break to the side of the sea wall is a hotly contested left hander breaking over a shallow reef. Next is the sandbar - a fast hollow left and right beach break. At the river mouth is a powerful right hander breaking over rock and reef. These breaks are where you will find the local and international rippers catching tubes and busting airs. Further North past the Rivermouth is a less crowded hollow left break accessed from Pererenan village.

South of Echo Beach, are mellower breaks suitable for beginners unless the swell is huge. Old man's is a right hander which can produce a long ride in bigger surf. Next door is Batu Bolong, a surf spot named after the unique rock at the water's edge. Now a favourite spot for longboarders and beginners, the wave breaks far out and rolls in gently. You can get super long rides here if you don't mind sharing and can weave your way through a crowd.

Canggu Surf Lessons / Schools

Canggu is home to a couple of full service Surf camps. They supply all the gear you need, ferry you to the surf spots every day and provide instruction to help you level up your skills. Good choice when you want to make friends with fellow surfers. Another option is to hire a surf guide or coach who can pick you up from your accomodation and take you to where its firing on the day. The local guides will surf with you and teach you how to surf their local breaks.

Canggu Surf Hire / Rental

For beginners, the surf rental at the Batu Bolong car park has a variety of boards that you can hire by the hour or longer terms. Most are softboards and longboards which suit the surf at Batu Bolong.

Canggu is no longer a secret. It's now known internationally for its blend of great breaks, surf / wellness vibe and businesses catering to tourists.

Apart from the great surf, travellers love Canggu for its wellness vibe, lesser crowds and mix of international & local culture.

There are lots of great cafes and restaurants in the area catering to International tourists. Local favourite Warung Bu Mi Is where you can sample local food, taking your pick from the great selection of dishes. For well crafted lattes and cappucinos, head to BGS Bali's coffee bar. Head into Canggu central for local restaurants where you can try Balinese specialties such as Babi Guling and Bebek Goreng.

For those seeking to party. The Deus Ex Canggu outpost near Batu Bolong is a surf shop / restaurant and concert venue hosting international performing bands. La Brisa and Finns beach clubs are situated right on the sand with restaurants, pools, and DJs spinning sundown sessions. And for those wanting to chill, the area is known for its yoga studios and classes.
